Puerto Vallarta has to be our favorite Mexican town so far. Good thing, since we'll be here all summer (to wait out hurricane season). After spending the last few months in the dry desert of Baja, the lush green landscape of this area has been an amazing change of scenery. Downtown Puerto Vallarta, with its boardwalk, cobblestone streets and small town feel is just the right size to get lost in, without feeling overwhelmed.
There is no decent marina near downtown, so we get to ride the bus from our marina. Make that two buses since there is no direct route. Signage on the front of many buses is usually questionable, so we just ask the bus driver in our excellent spanglish if his bus will take us to the right place. Usually it doesn't.
Puerto Vallarta is located on one of Mexico's biggest bays: Banderas Bay (Bay of Flags). We plan to explore some of the smaller bays along the 50 miles of coastlines aboard
Camille this summer; so stay tuned.

ReplyDeleteThe marinas aren't too costly in the summer months. About $500/month. Unfortunately, there isn't really anywhere good to anchor in Banderas Bay for long term. Either it can get very rolly or it's too deep. Also with hurricane season we'd much rather have a nice slip for Camille. To tell you the truth it's so dang hot here now that we've been crashing in my parents condo. Bless airconditioning! :-)
