San Diego

DSCN2671

San Diego, California -- Every time I come back to Southern California I wonder why I ever left. Beautiful beaches, the smell of sex-wax in the air, perfect weather year-round, great little surf towns up and down the coast. Not to mention excellent sailing conditions.

After leaving Germany at 15 years of age, San Diego was my first home in the US. I went to high school and college here and made it my home for nearly 15 years. Nowhere else have I ever spent this much time. Not to mention my parents lived here until they started cruising Mexico a couple of years ago and my dearest friend and "nephew" are here.

So while arriving in San Diego always feels like coming home, a couple of days into being here I remember what made me leave. This place is crowded! You can't go anywhere and not have to fight for a parking spot. Driving someplace has to be timed to avoid traffic and everywhere you look there are signs telling you what you can't do.

We're not sure how long we will be here. Shopping for the boat, upgrading both of our captain's licenses and a few short deliveries should keep us busy for a while. Of course it's also a nice reprieve from the heat of Puerto Vallarta and we are enjoying some beach time.

  1. Great shots of those surfers! I have always wanted to go to San Diego because of the wonderful things people say:D. If I did ever live in such a crowded place I think I'd want to live in a condo and walk/use public trans to get around.

So cool you got to live and have such great experiences there!
